Teen son of Canadian consul general killed in Miami drug deal gone bad

15-year-old son of Roxanne Dube arrested

MIAMI ā€“ The 15-year-old son of the Canadian consul general has been arrested in Miami after he was involved in a marijuana deal that ended in gunfire, claiming the life of his older brother and another man, police said.

The shooting happened about 2:15 p.m. Monday at an apartment building in the 3600 block of Southwest 17th Terrace.

Police said Marc Wabafiyebazu, 15, and his brother, Jean Wabafiyebazu, 17, who were both armed with guns, planned to rob drug dealers at a home in the Coral Way district. The two brothers drove to the alleged drug deal in a BMW belonging to their mother, Roxanne Dube.

Jean Wabafiyebazu was shot and killed inside of the home. Joshua Wright, one of the suspected drug dealers, was also killed. A third man, Anthony Rodriguez, 19, was wounded and drove off after allegedly trying to sell the teens two pounds of marijuana. He was later found at a nearby gas station, police said.

Miami police arrested Marc Wabafiyebazu on a felony murder charge Monday afternoon. Under Florida law, anyone who participates in a violent felony in which someone dies -- in this case, armed robbery -- can face a murder charge.

Marc Wabafiyebazu is being held in juvenile detention. Rodriguez also faces charges of felony murder and marijuana possession with intent to sell.

Dube's ex-husband said he spoke with his ex about the ordeal.

"When they arrived there, Jean left Marc in the car and went inside this house where he had this appointment," said Germano Wabafiyebazu. "So my youngest, who stayed in the car, heard the shots rushed to this house and found his brother dead."

The Canadian government and the U.S. State Department are said to be working with police in the investigation.
