Carlos Rojas Paz, 25, faces 7 counts of sexual battery on minor

SUNRISE, Fla. – A substitute teacher who was arrested Thursday after accusations that he had sex with a student now faces seven counts of sexual battery on a minor over the age of 12.

Police said Carlos Rojas Paz, 25, who was working at Boyd Anderson High School, detailed to them how he pursued the students through social media, text messages and in person.

"There were photos taken. Allegedly, the photos were on the defendant's computer, and I believe his cellphone, which gives the court great concern," Broward County Judge John Hurley said in court Friday. "He also admitted that he's had sexual intercourse with other juvenile females as young as 14 years old."

The victim that came forward in Monday's charges against Rojas Paz told police when she met him in May 2014 he gave her a ride home and asked for her social media account information. She said in the days that followed, Rojas Paz became persistent and messages began to grow more sexually explicit, including images of his privates.

Police said Rojas Paz became possessive of the victim and would make comments to her when other male classmates showed her attention in his presence.

The victim told police Rojas Paz would call her out of other classes and on five occasions took her to his empty classroom, turned off the lights and cornered her before kissing and touching her inappropriately.

Police said Rojas Paz and the victim met outside of school and on several occasions left during school to have sexual intercourse.

Police said Rojas Paz and the victim both claimed they tried to end the relationship. Rojas Paz said he did so because of her age and that he didn't want to lose his job.

"Immediately upon notification from law enforcement regarding his arrest, the district barred (Rojas Paz) from working in our schools," Broward County Public Schools spokeswoman Tracy Clark said in a statement released Friday. "The district continues to work with law enforcement officials regarding their investigation."

Six charges were brought against Rojas Paz on Friday for alleged abuse of another victim. Police said there may be additional victims, but they have yet to come forward and give statements.
