Motorcyclist catches fire in Hollywood hit-and-run crash

Police looking for woman driving dark-colored Ford Sport Trac

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. – Police are looking for the driver of a pickup truck that hit and killed a motorcyclist Sunday night in Hollywood.

Hollywood police said officers received a call about 8:15 p.m. stating that a motorcyclist was on the ground in the southbound lane of South 56th Avenue off Washington Street.

Officers found the victim, identified as Jason Swanson, 31, on fire in the middle of the street and attempted to extinguish the flames. Swanson was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to witnesses, a woman who was driving the truck got out of her vehicle and looked at Swanson before fleeing the scene.

Witnesses told police that a child between the ages of 8 to 12 was a passenger in the truck.

"I mean, how can you do that in front of your kid?" said the victim's sister, Alicia Swanson. "Hit somebody and just keep going like nothing. Not knowing if the kid's dead, or hurt, or on fire or whatever. Just freak out and leave and think it's all OK. It's not OK."

Police said they are looking for a dark-colored 1987-2010 Ford Explorer Sport Trac. The truck should have damage to the running boards on the front driver's side and/or passenger side.

Anyone with information about this hit-and-run are asked to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
