AVENTURA, Fla. – There is no cure for psoriatic arthritis, but National Psoriasis Foundation's supporters want more walkers to join them Sunday in Aventura to change that.
Reality TV star Kim Kardashian raised awareness on the disease when she was diagnosed in 2011. She and Kris Jenner support the walk, because the money raised maintains a DNA data base to help scientists.

Other celebrities with the disease who have supported the foundation's walks across the country include LeAnn Rimes, Eli Roth, Stacy London, Art Garfunkel, Phil Mickelson, John Updike, Jon Lovitz and CariDee English.
"It is a family friendly walk, with food, games and kids activities," said the National Psoriasis Foundation's Jenifer Marquart in an e-mail.
The foundation volunteers want to educate the public on psoriasis arthritis, which is much more difficult to diagnose than psoriasis. They organize events like the one in Aventura all over the country and set up educational webinars with experts on their website.
Volunteers claim that since the organization was founded in 1968, it has raised more than $7 million for research, advocacy and education.
Psoriasis is known as scaly red and white skin patches that happen when the immune system goes into overdrive to attack the skin, the American College of Rheumatology said on their website.
Psoriatic Arthritis develops when the immune system attacks the joints. The pain can mimic that of a cartilage tear, so in most cases it is diagnosed only after repeated episodes of muscle or joint pain and inflammation.
At the health fair Sunday, doctors will be volunteering to answer questions and volunteers will be giving free treatment product samples.
Registration for the Sunday walk is available on the web and at the fair starting at 7 a.m.
