Navy's stealth destroyer pulls into South Florida

USS Zumwalt is largest destroyer in Naval fleet

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. ā€“ The U.S. Navy's newest, largest and most technologically advanced destroyer is currently in Fort Lauderdale.

The U.S.S. Zumwalt pulled into Port Everglades on Thursday, just in time for the Fort Lauderdale Boat Show.

Commissioned on Oct. 15, the ZumwaltĀ is one of three in its class and has stealth capabilities, despite weighing in at a massive 15,500 tons.

The ships weaponry is hidden behind flat surfaces and sharp angles, making the entire ship practically invisible to radar.

Built over 4-plus years for an estimated $3.5 billion, it's also one of the Navy's most expensive ships. But with all its technology, the ship operates with a crew half the size of a normal destroyer.

CNN reports the ZumwaltĀ even the Navy brass is excited about the new ship.

"If Batman had a ship, it would be the USS Zumwalt," said Adm. Harry B. Harris, Jr., commander of the US Pacific Command, where the ship will be assigned.

There is no word on how long ship will be in Fort Lauderdale before it makes its way to its home base in San Diego.
