New Alert System Helps Police Solve Crime

MIAMI – Miami-Dade Police are hoping you can help them solve crimes.

Miami-Dade launched a new text message and e-mail alert program Wednesday in honor of a young girl who was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver. On Jan. 8, 11-year-old Ashley Valdes was struck by a truck moments after getting off a school bus on Southwest 80th Street.

8 days later police arrested suspect Harvey Abraham.

People who sign up will get alerts when Miami-Dade law enforcement needs the public's help.
