New video released in fatal Miami hit-and-run

Dericka Banks, 18, hit by car last month

MIAMI – Police have released surveillance video showing the moments an 18-year-old woman was struck and killed by a driver in Miami.

Dericka Banks, was hit by a car Feb. 28 while crossing Northwest 54th Street, just east of 13th Avenue.

The video shows a green 2008 Toyota Corolla driving away from the scene after Banks was hit.  Police said the right-front light cover was found at the scene.

"You are a monster, because you left her there to die," said Derrick Banks, Dericka Banks' brother. "You didn't turn around. You left her to die."

"Whoever did this to my child -- my family is grieving, they are hurting, they are mad," said the victim's mother, Veronica Banks.

Dericka Banks died last week at Jackson Memorial Hospital with her family by her side.

"Right now, I am just trying to be strong for my child and get justice for her," Veronica Banks said.

"I just want to let you know, whoever you are, you hurt this family. We are going to find you," Derrick Banks said.

Police said the car should have front-end damage and had two for sale signs in each front window at the time of the crash.

Anyone who recognizes the car in the surveillance video is asked to call police.
