Border Patrol believes migrants part of illegal smuggling operation

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. ā€“ Nine migrants believed to be part of an illegal smuggling operation are in custody after coming ashore in Miami Beach early Monday morning.

All eight men and one woman were taken into custody near Collins Avenue and 25th Street.

U.S. Border Patrol investigators said five Indian nationals, two Jamaicans, a Bahamian and a Haitian were on the 26-foot boat that grounded on the beach. They were being questioned by federal agents.

One man tried to run away, but Border Patrol agents caught up with him. Another man also tried to get away.

The boat is registered in Florida, but it is still unclear from where it left before arriving in Miami Beach.
