Nurse accused of having sex with patient

David Lazarus charged with sexual battery

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. ā€“ Police on Wednesday arrested a 42-year-old Broward Health nurse accused of having sex with a patient.

Police charged David Lazarus with two counts of sexual battery on a victim over 12 years old.

According to an arrest affidavit, on June 14, Lazarus met a patient recovering from kidney stone surgery while outside on a cigarette break at the Broward Health Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale.

"It looks like initially he was not her nurse but he offered -- allegedly -- on at least more than one occasion to get her more medication and he allegedly brought her morphine with syringes," Broward Circuit Court Judge John Hurley said during a hearing Thursday.

Lazarus offered to get the woman morphine and Oxycontin, which she took, police said. He later sexually assaulted her.

"It appears that she was at an altered state and he was requiring her to be involved in sex acts," said Hurley.

Lazarus denied having sex with the patient, the affidavit said.

Hurley ordered Lazarus be held on $50,000 bond.

"Currently, you represent a danger at least to women who would be your patients," said Hurley.

The Broward Health Medical Center issued a statement, saying: "We were informed this morning about a patient allegation against an employee. We have responded by initiating a thorough review of the allegations."
