Officer accused in road rage shooting

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. ā€“ The Florida Highway Patrol confirms it is conducting a criminal investigation into a possible road rage incident involving two South Florida officers.

Georgina Illa, who has worked as a corrections officer for four years, said she was driving northbound on Florida's Turnpike on Sunday night when she claims an off-duty Miami-Dade police officer shot at her.

Illa said she was heading to work from Homestead when the vehicle the officer was riding in cut her off.

She said she flashed her high beams and started passing the car, when she claims the off-duty officer in the passenger seat threw something at her vehicle and then pulled out a gun.

"I'm a little scared," she said. "Because obviously the guy is not stable. Who does that?"

A bullet appears to have traveled through her back tail light and into her back seat.

Illa said she sped off and flagged down a marked Miami-Dade police officer on the turnpike for help. Troopers were called out shortly afterwards.

Illa said the officer told investigators he never shot at the car.

Charges have not yet been filed at this time.

FHP and the Miami-Dade Police Department would not comment on the allegations since this is an ongoing criminal investigation.Ā
