CORAL GABLES, Fla. – More than a week since 4-year-old Jordan Coleman died after he was left inside a daycare SUV outside a Tamarac apartment complex, the boy's parents held a news conference at their attorney's office.
They have filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the 3 C's Day Academy and asks for the maximum in terms of monetary damages. They also said those whose job it is to enforce the rules and regulations at daycare centers must be accountable and responsible.
"It's just tragic to come home and not see your son," said Fantasia Goldson, Jordan's mother. "It's real heartbreaking."
Jordan is the third child in less than two years in South Florida who has died while in the care of a facility watching them.
"Until somebody takes a very firm stance to put our children's interests first, this problem is going to continue to repeat itself," said the family's attorney, Andy Yaffa.
Last week, Jordan was found unconscious inside a hot SUV while in the care of the 3 C's Day Academy based in Sunrise.
They had take eight children to an apartment in Tamarac. The family believes it was to conceal the fact that the facility was over capacity and was expecting a state inspection.
"There was fear by the ownership that they had too many kids under their care," said attorney Stuart Grossman. "And the solution to that was to put them all in a van and take them across town to someone's apartment. All of this is unauthorized."
The family says that Jordan had only been attending the 3 C's Day Academy for three weeks.
The Broward Sheriff's Office continues to investigate this case. So far, no arrests have been made.
