Aventura police say woman in serious condition after being struck

AVENTURA, Fla. – A woman remains in serious condition after police say she was struck by a vehicle on the William Lehman Causeway.

After 6 p.m. Friday, the Aventura Police Department responded to 911 calls received at the westbound lanes of the William Lehman Causeway after the woman was reportedly struck by a westbound traveling vehicle in the center lane.

Miami Dade Fire Rescue, along with Aventura police officers, arrived at the scene and found the woman, who police said had suffered serious head and chest injuries.

The woman was treated and taken to the Hollywood Memorial Hospital emergency room, where police said she remains in serious condition.

During the traffic accident, the Aventura Police Department said it was forced to shut down all vehicular traffic going westbound from Sunny Isles and Golden Beach headed to Biscayne Boulevard, or U.S 1, for investigators and medical personnel treating the woman.

Westbound traffic was diverted to West Country Club Drive for a couple of hours before the scene was cleared and the highway was re-opened, police said.

Aventura police said no traffic violations have been determined to have occurred at this time pertaining to the driver involved in the accident.

The woman was not identified by police.
