Penske moving truck overturns on Turnpike, spilling tons of shoes

Driver says shoes came from New Orleans, intended for donation

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – A Penske moving truck overturned Friday afternoon on Florida's Turnpike, spilling out tons of shoes.

The crash was reported about 1:50 p.m. on the southbound exit ramp at Northwest 199th Street near Sun Life Stadium.

Sky 10 was above the scene as two people were placed on stretchers and another woman was being checked out by paramedics.

A few bags of luggage were also on the ground.

The driver of the truck, Miguel Enrique Marquez, told Local 10 News that he was on his way to South Florida from New Orleans to deliver the donated shoes to a local organization that sells or donates the shoes to low-income families and refugees.

Marquez said he picked up four women, who asked him to give them a ride to the Sun Life Stadium area. He said he lost control of the truck on the exit ramp and the truck overturned.

He said he suffered minor cuts in the crash. All four women were taken to a hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

"I thank God for this, you know what I mean, that nobody got hurt and I didn't hit no car behind me," Marquez said. "I got blessed."

The exit ramp was closed down for several hours before authorities cleared the scene.
