Woman shot multiple times in attempted armed robbery

Victim listed in critical but stable condition after surgery

HOMESTEAD, Fla. ā€“ A woman was shot several times during an attempted armed robbery, Miami-Dade police said.

Police said Isalia Hernandez, 33, was confronted by a man as she got out of her car about 3 a.m. near Southwest 304th Street and Southwest 160th Avenue.

"She was screaming like, 'Help me, help me.' The guy had left by the time we came out," Hernandez's nephew, Daniel Hernandez, said.

"It got me scared," Elizabeth Cortez, who heard the gunshots and woke up her parents, said.

Detective Alvaro Zabaleta said the man was wearing a hooded sweatshirt and demanded Hernandez's purse.

"He then pulled out a gun, a struggle ensued, according to (witnesses), they heard a yell, (and) that's when shots were fired and she was struck multiple times," Zabaleta said.

Hernandez was airlifted to Kendall Regional Medical Center, where she is listed in critical but stable condition after undergoing surgery.

Police went door to door in the neighborhood, hoping someone had surveillance cameras that captured the incident.

Meanwhile, Homestead police captured two men nearby in connection with a home invasion.

"The description to those two individuals are very similar to the ones involved here, (but) we can't confirm if, in fact, those are the same individuals," Zabaleta said.
