Phase 2 of I-95 Express project begins Monday

Signs warn drivers of new changes

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. ā€“ Signs have been posted along Interstate 95's northbound lanes warning drivers of changes that will begin Monday night, as phase two of the I-95 Express projects begins.

The biggest change is for drivers heading toward the Golden Glades interchange, who will notice different entry and exit points along the express lanes.

"For drivers flying over the Golden Glades interchange, they will see that those polls have been extended northward to a new exit location," Florida Department of Transportation spokeswoman Tish Burgher said.

Drivers who want to exit northbound I-95 at Miami Gardens Drive will now have to exit before the Golden Glades interchange flyover at Northwest 151st Street.

The first exit point from the Golden Glades flyover will now be Ives Dairy Road.

Tolls will be installed nightly and signs will advise drivers of the new express lane exit.

FDOT officials said the goal is to minimize congestion and keep traffic moving at an average speed of 45 mph in the express lanes.

"It has done what it is supposed to do -- it has been very successful," Burgher said. "Drivers are seeing the benefits and people who use the express lanes are very happy with them."

Drivers will not be charged for new tolls until construction is over, but they will be charged for tolls in existing express lanes.
