HIALEAH, Fla. – One at a time and with their hands up, several people walked out of a house where, late Wednesday, a fight ended with a man dead inside.
Hialeah police responded to a dispute involving shots fired at 125 W. 56th St. after 5 p.m. Wednesday, police said.
Officers with their guns drawn took up positions behind cars while people ran out of harm's way. At one point, officers used an armored shield to walk three people from the front door of the home. A SWAT team would soon take over things.
"I got on the roof of my house, and I see SWAT coming left and right from all my neighbors' cribs," neighbor Jonathan Rodriguez said. "They surrounded this entire block, the other side, pulled everybody out."
Neighbors were yelled at to stay indoors.
"I was parking and he goes, 'Go over there,' and I said, 'No, this is my house,' and he goes, 'Well, you go in and don't come outside,'" said neighbor Millie Diaz.
Hours after the first call of shots fired went out came word that the SWAT team moved in on the house and found the body of a man who'd been shot.
"It was like that for two hours," Diaz said. "I couldn't come out or nothing. My husband and daughter couldn't come in."
It's unclear if anyone is being held in connection with the death.
Local 10 News is told a pregnant woman was hurt when she tried to break up the fight, but she should be OK.
