A 26-year-old man who was shot early Sunday morning has died from his injuries, despite his friends attempts to get him to a nearby hospital.
Corey Pratter of Deerfield Beach was shot by an unknown armed man near the intersection of Florida Avenue and West Broward Boulevard shortly after 4:30 a.m.
"An unknown gunman approached the victim, opened fire, shot multiple rounds at the victim," said Detective DeAnna Greenlaw.
When Fort Lauderdale Police reported to the scene, they pulled over a black 2006 BMW they suspected may be involved in the shooting. It was traveling without illuminated headlights eastbound on West Broward Boulevard.
Greenlaw says an officer pulled the driver of the vehicle over at NW 2nd Street and 27th Avenue and discovered the body of Pratter inside, with multiple gunshot wounds. Greenlaw says that officers learned the driver was Pratter's friend who witnessed the shooting and was attempting to get him to the hospital.
Local 10's Tamika Bickham spoke exclusively with the victim's father, William Pratter, hours after learning of his son's death.
"He was always looking out for me, talking to me, trying to keep me straight," William said of his son, before breaking down in tears.
Homicide Detectives urge anyone with information to call Detective Jack DiCristofalo at 954-828-6096.
