MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. ā Police are searching for a missing 14-year-old boy in southwest Miami-Dade County.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement issued a missing child alert Friday for Matthew Tomescu.
Jeanne Tomescu and Marco Abdala, the boy's parents, said they are worried sick. It's been more than 24 hours since they've seen their son.
Jeanne Tomescu said Matthew was with her at South Miami K-8 Center at 5:30 p.m. Thursday to pick up Matthew's little brother.
"I left him at my car to pick up my little one in after-school care," she said.
She was inside for just a few minutes, but when she came out, Matthew was gone.
"The car was running, (the) door was closed and he was just not there," she said.
Sky 10 was above the area where Matthew was last seen near Southwest 56th Street and Southwest 67th Avenue. Miami-Dade Schools police used dogs to search for the missing teen.
FDLE spokesman Richard Herbert said the boy has "emotional issues."
Matthew's parents want him to know he's not in trouble. They just want him home.
"Come home, man. Nothing (is going to) happen to you," Abdala said.
"Everything's fine. We just want you to be safe and at home where you belong," said Jeanne Tomescu.
Tomescu was last seen wearing a green shirt, a gray hooded sweatshirt with a South Miami Cobras logo, beige cargo pants and Adidas shoes.
