The photos show a couple passed out in the front seat of the vehicle while a young boy is seen sitting in the back.

According to the report, officers stopped James Acord, 50, after seeing him driving erratically.

During the stop, Acord's head was "bobbing back and forth, his speech was almost unintelligible."

Sitting next to Acord in the vehicle, Rhonda Pasek, 47, was unconscious and turning blue in the passenger's seat.

The officers noticed Pasek's 4-year-old son sitting in the back seat of the vehicle.

"We feel we need to be a voice for the children caught up in this horrible mess," the department wrote in its post.

Acord also lost consciousness after the stop.

Officers immediately administered several rounds of Narcan, a drug which is used to reverse overdoses, to both Acord and Pasek.

Both passengers regained consciousness and were transported to the hospital for evaluation.

Heroin was later found in the vehicle.

The department apologized for the graphic nature of the photos, but felt they needed to demonstrate the dangers of drug abuse

"We are well aware that some may be offended by these images and for that we are truly sorry, but it is time that the non drug using public sees what we are now dealing with on a daily basis."

The child was placed in protective custody with the county's Children's Services.
