LAUDERHILL, Fla. – A 29-year-old man is dead after a police-involved shooting Friday in Lauderhill, according to the Broward Sheriff's Office.

The shooting happened at the Summit Palms Apartments on Northwest 46th Terrace shortly after 3 p.m. Friday.

Lauderhill police was conducting an investigation involving a stolen vehicle. When they confronted Demaris Turner in the stolen Hyundai Genesis he rammed into a marked K-9 cruiser, which had an officer and a K-9 inside, deputies said.

One Lauderhill detective fired his weapon, deputies said. The Sheriff's Office didn't confirm how many shots were fired but Local 10 News has learned Turner was shot at least 11 times, including twice in the head, sources said.

Lauderhill police personnel began lifesaving procedures on Turner until Lauderhill Fire Rescue arrived. Deputies said Turner was taken to Broward Health Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale, where he was pronounced dead.

The Lauderhill K-9 detective who was in the police vehicle that was struck was checked out at a local hospital and later released. Deputies said his K-9 partner, a Belgian Malinois, was taken to a veterinary hospital and remained hospitalized Friday night.

Turner has a history with law enforcement, Local 10 News has learned. The incident remains under investigation.
