Pompano Beach convenience store deemed total loss after fire

Fire reported at Chevron gas station

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – The convenience store of a Pompano Beach gas station was deemed a total loss Wednesday afternoon after a fire broke out inside the store.

The fire was reported at the Chevron gas station at 4650 N. State Road 7.

Firefighters said the fire started in the ceiling of the building, but burned through the structure.

Extra units were called in to rotate crews because of the intense heat, authorities said.

Firefighters said only one clerk was inside the store at the time and was not injured.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
