Pregnant woman thrown to ground during robbery, police say

Robbers get away with about $3,000 cash

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A pregnant woman was thrown to the ground during a robbery in southwest Miami-Dade County, police said.

The incident was reported May 29 in the area of Southwest 152nd Avenue and 69th Lane.

According to police, the woman was removing groceries from the back of her SUV when a silver 4-door sedan pulled up alongside her home.

The woman told police that a masked man got out of the car, pulled out a handgun and told her to give him her purse.

Police said the victim ran and a second robber snatched her purse and pushed her to the ground.

The 39-year-old woman was five months pregnant at the time. Police said she suffered minor bruising in the attack.

"We actually let her use our phone to call the police," a neighbor told Local 10 News reporter Jenise Fernandez. "That's all that we did for her. We gave her some water until the police came and she started telling us what happened. She was coming from Hialeah and she thinks that they were following her from over there."

Police said the robbers fled with the purse in the waiting vehicle that was being driven by a third person.

The purse contained about $3,000 in cash.
