Raul Puig faces additional charges in drug lab bust

LSD, methamphetamine, MDMA found at northwest Miami-Dade County home

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A man arrested on an armed trafficking charge over the weekend is facing additional charges, Miami-Dade police said.

Raul Puig, 29, now faces three drug possession charges that include MDMA and methamphetamine.

Puig was arrested Saturday while detectives were following up on an eviction order at a northwest Miami-Dade County home.

Police said Puig was alone in the home in the 8000 block of Northwest 200th Street when officers arrived. Police said Puig was renting the home.

The DEA, Miami-Dade police, the Miami-Dade County state attorney and chief state attorney all arrived at the home.

Detectives spent hours removing pill makers, more than 100,000 empty pill capsules, flasks, a pill press, beakers and dozens of instruments used to make various types of drugs, authorities said.

Officers said white powder was also seen scattered along the floor.

Detectives said Puig had 50 stamps of LSD, eight MDMA pills and a baggie with one gram of crystal methamphetamine inside of his back pocket.

A semi-automatic rifle, two handguns and 100 LSD stamps were also found inside the home, authorities said.

Police described the home, which they said was being used as a fully functional drug lab, as being a danger to the neighborhood because of the chemicals inside. Police said law enforcement officials who entered the home were required to wear special suits and gas masks as a precaution.

Puig was denied bond Monday. He will remain in jail for the next 21 days while prosecutors continue to review his case.
