Renderings show proposed waterfront venue

Land to be used is where Scotty's Landing sits

MIAMI ā€“ The principal of Grove Bay, a nearly $18 million proposed makeover of waterfront land next to Miami's city hall, showed off his plan that some people living nearby oppose.

The proposal includes two public promenades, three restaurants, the revitalization of boat hangers, and a developer-bought city parking garage with 40,000 square feet of retail space.

"We wanted to create this as a boater destination," said Jay Leyva, the principal of Grove Bay. "We also wanted to create big, public spaces." Web Extra: Leyva walks you through renderings

The land is where Scotty's Landing currently sits. Leyva said views from the waterfront restaurants would be greater than those at Scotty's.

"It's going to be kid-friendly and dog-friendly," said Michelle Melin Niemeyer, an attorney and Grove Village Council member. "It'll be on the water, it's going to have beautiful views."

"I think we've won the hearts and minds of Grovites," said David Villano, who opposes the project. Web Extra: Hear Villano's take on the project
