Chopper undergoes successful cataract surgery at the Animal Eye Specialty Clinic in Deerfield Beach.

DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla. ā€“ A rescue dog received cataract surgery Wednesday at the Animal Eye Specialty Clinic in Deerfield Beach after losing sight in both eyes.

Veterinarian and ophthalmologist, Dr. Dylan Buss, said the dog named "Chopper" has lived a challenging life. He battled infections and moving from owner to owner.

Mandy Just, a professional dog walker, said she rescued the dog from a man who said he was homeless in Fort Lauderdale.

"I gave him food. I gave him medication, but the dog got worst and worst," Just said. "The man doesn't want the dog back, and now I need to find a home for him."

Just said dog food was donated for Chopper by Go Healthy Pet.

Chopper had a few medical conditions, including skin parasites, skin infections and intestinal parasites. Just said he has a clean bill of health now, and got all of his vaccinations.

"She was very kind to take him to Bayview Animal Clinic in Fort Lauderdale and correct him of those ailments," Buss said. "Upon noticing him, [she also] realized there were cataracts that were affecting his vision causing blindness."

Just used a crowd-sourcing website and raised some of the money to pay for the surgery. And although it was not enough, Buss agreed to perform the surgery for the amount Just raised.

"There's no feeling you can use to describe how amazing it is to take a dog who's blind and bumping into things and give them their vision back," Buss said.

Recovery will take about a month. Just said once "Chopper" recovers she is hoping to find a new home for him.Ā
