Robert Velazco arrested in scooter DUI crash

Police say man fled scene after pickup truck ran red light, struck scooter

MIAMI – A man has been arrested on charges of driving under the influence in connection with a hit-and-run crash that injured the driver of a scooter.

Robert Velazco was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on $8,000 bond.

Miami-Dade police said Velazco was driving his pickup truck south on Southwest 57th Avenue early Wednesday morning when he ran a red light and struck a scooter traveling on Southwest Eighth Street.

Police said Velazco fled the scene but was later apprehended.

The victim, Alexander Rodas, 30, was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center in critical but stable condition.
