HIALEAH, Fla. – The Miami-Dade State Attorney's Office found no evidence that the Hialeah mayor and city council violated Florida's Sunshine law after they were accused of meeting in secret at city hall last month.
Former Mayor Julio Martinez sent the video to the state attorney and claimed all seven city council members met with Mayor Carlos Hernandez prior to a budget meeting in September.
"They try to use these stories, these lies, to embarrass our city and I'm not going to forgive them for that," said Hernandez.
"That is something that is just totally ridiculous, unfounded, and insulting," added Council President Isis Garcia-Martinez.
Martinez said he'd pay for polygraph tests to prove there was a violation of the Sunshine law. He's running against Hernandez for the mayoral seat.
The state attorney report indicates that the investigator found the video misleading because the door the council members used went to a hallway outside the mayor's office.
Hernandez said he directed the city attorney to look into legal action to recoup the cost of the investigation and Martinez' motives.
