BSO deputy injured in crash on I-95 near Copans Road

Veteran sergeant, 2 people in another car taken to hospital

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – A Broward Sheriff's Office deputy and two others were injured in a crash Monday morning that closed the southbound lanes of Interstate 95 near Copans Road for several hours.

BSO spokeswoman Veda Coleman-Wright said Sgt. Brian Miller, 55, was driving an unmarked car in the southbound high-occupancy vehicle lane shortly after 4 a.m. when it struck a car that was stopped on the highway without any warning lights activated.

The 29-year veteran sergeant and two people who were in the Honda Civic were taken to Broward Health North. They were identified as driver John Lewis, 29, of Coral Springs, and passenger Jessica Gotfredson, 24, of Boynton Beach.

None of the injuries is considered life-threatening. Detectives said Gotfredson was treated and released.

All southbound traffic was diverted off I-95 onto Copans Road after the crash. The lanes reopened by 7:30 a.m.
