Security guard on life support after being shot at Metrorail station

Shooting reported Tuesday night at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. station

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A security guard is on life support after he was shot at a Miami-Dade County Metrorail station Tuesday night.

The guard, identified as Keith Cox, 49, was found after witnesses told police they heard gunshots at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. station at Northwest 27th Avenue and Northwest 62nd Street.

Miami-Dade police said the guard was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital in critical condition. He has since been put on life support and is not expected to survive.

Miami-Dade Transit temporarily closed the station, but it reopened Wednesday morning. During the closure, shuttle buses took passengers to the Brownsville station.

"Every morning I take the station," Ashley Williams told Local 10 News. "I am by myself and I am only 20 and all I have is a little razor. For me to know that now, I don't even want to ride the metro no more."

A witness told police that he saw a man running away from the scene after the shooting. He said the man got into a dark-colored vehicle and drove eastbound on Northwest 64th Street.
