FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - A teenager serving time for pouring rubbing alcohol on Michael Brewer before he was set on fire had his sentenced reduced.
Denver Jarvis will serve eight years in prison followed by 10 years of probation. Originally, he was sentenced to 10 years in prison followed by two years of community control and 20 years of probation.
Jarvis testified at the trial of Matthew Bent, who prosecutors said was the ringleader in the attack on Brewer in 2009. A judge sentenced Bent to 11 years in prison following his conviction of aggravated battery.
The state attorney's office agreed to reduce Jarvis' sentence dealing with supervision after incarceration after consulting with the Brewer family and recognizing he testified without any benefit to him.
