Serial bank robber arrested after robbing Hialeah Bank of America

Tip leads police to Santiago Navas-Rodriguez

HIALEAH, Fla. – A serial Hialeah bank robber was arrested Wednesday after he robbed a Bank of America, city police said.

Santiago Navas-Rodriguez, who was wanted for three bank robberies he committed in the last several weeks, was apprehended after a tipster called Hialeah police.

As detectives followed tips, Navas-Rodriguez was walking into a Bank of America at 900 West 49th Street, where he committed a robbery, police said.

Navas-Rodriguez approached the teller and stated he was armed and demanded the money," a media release said. "Once the teller handed over an undisclosed amount of money, Navas-Rodriguez walked out of the bank and fled prior to police arrival."

Police met Navas-Rodriguez at his home.

He was taken into custody by Hialeah detectives and turned over to the FBI.
