Small plane towed to rest stop after landing on I-75

Wings had to be removed before plane could be towed away

BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. – A small plane that landed on the side of Interstate 75 has been removed from the highway and was resting on a trailer at a rest stop a few miles away Thursday morning in western Broward County.

The Cessna 152 made an emergency landing late Wednesday afternoon near mile marker 33.

According to the Broward Sheriff's Office, the student pilot and flight instructor reported engine failure.

The plane belongs to Wayman Aviation.

"We did it," the flight instructor told Local 10 News after the ordeal.

The scare in the air didn't discourage the instructor from wanting to fly again.

"I want to go tomorrow," he said.

This small plane was resting on a trailer at a rest stop a few miles from where it made an emergency landing on Interstate 75.

Nobody was hurt.

A spokesman for Wayman Aviation said it was a "great, safe landing."

The wings of the plane had to be removed before it could be towed to a nearby rest stop.

Miami Dade College spokesman Juan Mendieta said that Wayman Aviation provides pilot training services to the college, but said that no students or college personnel were onboard the plane.

He said it was unclear why the airplane had a MDC logo affixed to the fuselage.

"The college is looking into this matter and the use of its logo on the plane, especially since the company's planes are used by other entities," Mendieta said. "The plane in question is provided by Wayman to MDC for an annual, statewide flight competition."

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the incident.
