South Florida man's driver's license suspended 26 times

Kiarri Cook, 23, busted in DUI checkpoint Friday in Miami Beach

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – A DUI checkpoint led to a South Florida man getting his driver's license suspended for the 26th time, and he's just 23 years old.

"A person like this doesn't deserve to be on the streets. (He) has no business on the streets," Miami Beach police Officer Ernesto Rodriguez said.

As first reported by Random Pixels, a multi-agency DUI checkpoint Friday, headed by Miami Beach police, issued 139 citations and made 16 arrests.

"Each arrest that we make has a potential to save a life, and that's what's rewarding," Rodriguez said.

Kiarri Cook was among those stopped.

According to state records, Cook's driving privileges were revoked four years.

Local 10 News reporter John Turchin visited Cook's home Tuesday, where Cook claimed he had no idea that his license was suspended.

"I was unknowingly (driving when) I had a suspended license," Cook said.

"All those times?" Turchin asked.

"Yeah," Cook said.

"How do you not know that you had a suspended license?" Turchin asked.

"How would you know?" Cook said.

Cook then became agitated, claiming he was being antagonized.

A records check showed Cook has had numerous run-ins with the law, including arrests on charges of disorderly conduct, trespassing and resisting arrest with violence.

In a case from 2014, Cook faces charges of aggravated battery resulting in bodily harm and aggravated assault with a firearm.
