Surveillance shows Serena Williams confronting robber

Tennis star followed man out of San Francisco restaurant

SAN FRANCISCO – She's known for being a superhero on the tennis court, but it turns out that Serena Williams' powers extend into restaurants as well.

After the 34-year-old posted on her Facebook page that she had chased down a man who tried to run off with her cellphone, ABC News obtained surveillance video from the San Francisco restaurant where it happened.

Williams is seen leaping from her chair and following the man out the door, leaving confused diners in her wake. Cameras from outside the Chinese restaurant recorded her confronting the man who then hands back her phone.

The man admitted to taking it, telling her he was "confused" inside the busy restaurant.

"She said that she thought that was the best approach so she could avoid any conflict with him," waitress Anastasia Villanueva said. "I just said 'Good job,' because it worked."

According to Williams, restaurant patrons welcomed her back inside with a standing ovation, writing "I was proud. I just showed every man in there I can stand up to bully's and other men. It was a win for the ladies!"

The 21-time Grand Slam winner added, "Just because you are a lady don't be afraid to step up to any challenge and not be a victim but a hero!"

It is unclear what happened to the man.
