Surveillance video shows vehicles involved in road-rage shooting

1 shot after traffic-related incident in Pembroke Pines

PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. – Surveillance cameras were recording after the driver of a dry cleaning delivery van was shot Monday.

The shooting was the result of an argument that occurred after a traffic-related incident in Pembroke Pines, according to police.

The video shows the alleged gunman, Kenneth Parris, 71, behind the wheel of a silver SUV that was close behind the van.

The driver of the van, Ray Lopez, 52, of Coral Spring, stopped in traffic, got out of his vehicle and approached the SUV and a verbal altercation began, police said.

According to the police report, Lopez told Parris, "Do you think you a tough guy?" After Parris replied, Lopez intentionally punched Parris while he was inside his vehicle, police said.

In fear for his safety, Parris shot Lopez with his personal firearm in Lopez's arm. According to the police report, Parris has a concealed firearms permit.

The Dry Clean Xpress van's driver-side was covered in blood, and the SUV had a bullet hole through the windshield.

Parris was taken in for questioning but was not charged.

Lopez was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital and is expected to be OK. He faces felony charges of battery and burglary.

"People are getting crazy on the road," Parris' neighbor, Bill Gruntler, said. "It's just completely out of character, he just always is a very mellow guy. It's a shame. I hate to see that."

Local 10 News reporter Ben Kennedy knocked on the door of Parris' home in Davie, but no one answered.
