Teary-eyed intruder causes trouble in Wilton Manors

Judge sets Brandon Owen Bartlett's bond at $25K

WILTON MANORS, Fla. – Why was Brandon Owen Bartlett crying?

On the back of his neck, the 30-year-old has a tattoo with a Mandarin Chinese character that means "love." And there is a man he just can't stay away from.

According to the man, who had to ask police for help, Bartlett showed up to his room in Fort Lauderdale "intoxicated," "uninvited" and "unannounced."

The man told police Bartlett threw him onto the bed "against his will and without his permission." Bartlett then dragged him off of the bed and threw him onto the floor, the victim said. Bartlett held him down "against his will" and threatened him with a clenched fist, the victim told police.

When he tried to call for help, Bartlett took a cellphone away from him and shouted, "You want to call the police?" Then he smashed it on the ground.

"Here is your phone," he said. He also stole his bicycle, police said.

Wilton Manors police Officer Laurie Salas arrested him in the area of Wilton Manors Health & Rehabilitation Center, 2675 N. Andrews Ave.

Bartlett also made life difficult for Salas.

When she was trying to get him out of the car, he was "pulling backwards and bladed his body away from me," she said. And when she finally managed to get him out, she said he "dropped his body weight to the ground." And as he walked, he "began tensing and pushing backwards."

Police charged Bartlett with robbery, burglary, criminal mischief and resisting arrest. A Broward County judge set his bond at $25,125 Wednesday.
