MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Miami Gardens police are investigating the shooting death of a teenager whose body was found Tuesday afternoon in an apartment complex parking lot.
Roderick Sweeting, 17, was walking home from school when he was fatally shot, according to his uncle, Derrick Smith.
"Whoever did that, they need to be caught, and I'm going to let the police do what they need to do," Smith said.
An officer in the vicinity of the incident heard the shots fired and discovered the body between two vehicles in the Oaks apartment complex, located in the 17600 block of Northwest 25 Avenue, police said.
"This is crazy," Smith said. "It has gotten really crazy with all these young guys going through whatever."
Sky 10 video showed police placing at least seven bullet casing markers on the ground.
Neighbors, family and friends arrived at the complex throughout the afternoon, crying and demanding answers from police.
Miami-Dade County Public Schools Superintendent Alberto Carvalho posted about the shooting on Twitter.
"As the nation observes Youth Violence Awareness Week, another high school student is cowardly slain in the streets of our community. #enough," he wrote.
Another teen was shot shortly after Carvalho posted that message. Osmand Falls, 16, was shot multiple times in Miami. Falls was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center, where he later died.
Anyone with information regarding either shooting is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
