Teen snatches iPad from 4-year-old at Tamarac salon

Olympic Gold Medalist Howard Davis, Jr. donates replacement iPad to salon

TAMARAC, Fla. ā€“ The Broward Sheriff's Office is searching for a teenager who snatched an iPad out of the hands of a 4-year-old boy in Tamarac.

The robbery was reported just before 7 p.m. July 24 inside the Grace Salon.

Deputies said the boy's mother, who works at the salon, was watching cartoons on his iPad as he waited for her to finish her shift.

"I was nervous and angry," Alejandro's mother told Local 10 News.

Surveillance video shows a teenage boy pacing outside the salon before opening the front door and asking an employee if his mother was there.

When the employee turned her head away to look, the teen snatched the iPad, which is owned by the salon, from the child.

"We didn't know what to do," salon owner Grace Plata said. "We were running behind him."

Witnesses said the thief is about 5 feet, 6 inches tall, with a thin build. His hair was shaved on the side with twists on top, and he was wearing a purple T-shirt with "INVS" written across the front. He was also wearing baggy beige shorts and black sandals with socks.

No one was injured in the robbery.

On Wednesday, Olympic Gold Medalist Howard Davis, Jr. donated a replacement iPad to the salon.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Mark Copley at (954) 321-4270. Tips can be reported anonymously to Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-793-TIPS.
