Thousands of dollars worth of tools stolen from traveling theatre group

Tools needed to put on free shows for children

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. ā€“ The traveling theater group Fantasy Theatre Factory is working on a new show set to open next month, but the production is now in jeopardy after a group of Grinches broke into the southwest Miami-Dade County headquarters and stole $3,000 worth of very important tools just days before Christmas.

"Our scheduling director called me and told me that the lock had been pushed out and we came in and saw our table saw was gone," said Larry Fields, the producing artistic director at the theater. "The saw dust is all that's left there. We had two sewing machines right here that our costume designer was using to build our costumes for the show."

The Fantasy Theatre Factory has been putting on shows for three decades. The nonprofit group travels to elementary schools in Miami-Dade County, Broward County and across Florida to put on shows for free.Ā

"We take the sets, the costumes, the props, everything to them with actors and we do these educational shows for the students," Fields said.

Fields said the students seem to love it.

Police are now actively investigating the break-in. Fields said he has just special one special wish this holiday season.

"Bring it back, you know, no questions asked," he said. "All we want is our things back so we can do our programs that we're doing for the community. That's what we're hoping for. It puts us in a really difficult position, but we operate under the motto the show must go on."
