3 vehicles burned in Hialeah parking lot

Authorities calling fires suspicious

HIALEAH, Fla. – Residents of a Hialeah complex woke up Monday to three charred vehicles in the parking lot of their apartment building off West 26th Avenue and 72nd Street.

Ray Aponte was the first to notice the fire and quickly ran to warn his neighbors.

"It was crazy," he told Local 10 News. "I just wanted to make sure everyone was aware and was awake in case it spread."

Witnesses said the fire started with a pickup truck and spread quickly to a cargo van and BMW parked next to it.

The Hialeah Fire Department put out all three fires. There were no injuries.

Rosemary Abreu also lives in the building and said she believes the fires were not accidental.

Abreu said someone slashed the tires of an entire row of cars in the parking lot in 2013. She said the broken security gate at the entrance is to blame. Abreu fears if security isn't increased, someone could get hurt.

The cause of the fire has not been released, but authorities said the fires are suspicious. The state fire marshal was called to investigate.
