A woman accused of fatally shooting a Miami police officer at his Pembroke Pines home has pleaded not guilty.
An attorney for Tiniko Thompson entered the written plea in court Thursday in Fort Lauderdale.
Officer Carl Patrick was found dead while wearing his police uniform inside his Pembroke Pines home last month.
Thompson, a Miami police public service aide who was Patrick's live-in girlfriend, was arrested on a charge of second-degree murder almost three weeks later.
Police said Thompson shot Patrick and took his cellphone so that he couldn't call for help.
Thompson's attorney has said his client shot Patrick in self-defense after a fight.
Thompson is expected back in court Aug. 22.
