Toddler dies after being found unresponsive inside van parked at Miami day care

No one in custody, Miami police say

MIAMI ā€“ An unconscious child who was found in a van outside a Miami day care Wednesday afternoon has died, police said.

Miami Department of Fire-Rescue Capt. Ignatius Carroll said paramedics performed CPR on the 2-year-old boy about 3:45 p.m., who was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital's pediatrics unit.

The child was pronounced dead upon arriving at the hospital.

Sky 10 was above Vision for Life Academy in the area of Northwest 41st Street and Seventh Avenue about 4:30 p.m. as crime scene tape was blocking off a white van.

Carroll said it's unclear how long the child was inside the vehicle.

Miami police said the driver of the van, which has "Reaching Children for Christ Ministries" posted on its side, was at the scene speaking with detectives.

Local 10 News reporter Carlos Suarez said a worker at the day care found the child, identified Thursday as Angel Gabriel Matute-Chavez, in the van.Ā

Miami police said no one has been arrested, but the investigation is ongoing.
