FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A former Broward County bailiff accused of holding his wife at gunpoint in a motel room in September 2013 will face a judge and jury Monday.
Garrett Cunningham is charged with armed kidnapping, two counts of sexual battery and aggravated assault with a firearm.

According to the police report, Cunningham lured his estranged wife to the Plantation Inn in the 300 block of North State Road 7, claiming he needed her to drive him to buy groceries and then asked her to help bring the bags inside.
Police said Cunningham then placed handcuffs and leg shackles on the woman while he interrogated her at gunpoint for about two hours. Police said he taped the interrogation, asking her questions such as who she was dating at the time.
The report stated that Cunningham threatened to shoot her in the knee if she lied in any of her answers. He then allegedly sexually assaulted her two times.
Detectives said the victim claimed Cunningham had an alcohol and gambling problem which led to his eviction from an apartment and his car being repossessed.
Cunningham had worked as a bailiff at the Broward County courthouse in Fort Lauderdale since 1999.
