Trio robs JetStream Federal Credit Union in Mercy Hospital

FBI still searching for Tavarius Rakeem Smith

MIAMI – The FBI has made two arrests in connection to the JetStream Federal Credit Union robbery on the second floor of Mercy Hospital.

The FBI arrested 38-year-old Garriet Demona Hicks and 23-year-old Alfred Walker.

However, the FBI is still looking for Tavarius Rakeem Smith.

The robbery happened at 3663 S. Miami Avenue about 7:10 a.m. Thursday.

Surveillance images showed two robbers dressed in hospital scrubs enter the credit union and demand money from a teller, according to the FBI. One was armed.

Three employees were kicked and sprayed with an aerosol irritant. They were treated at the hospital and released.

The robbers left with an undisclosed amount of cash.

"Everybody could come in and out as they please and if they dress in scrubs, they could have access to the hospital," said Rosie Ibarra, who works at Mercy Hospital.

Agents believe the robbers left in an older model, faded green four-door Buick with tinted windows.

"We are working closely with the FBI and local law enforcement and have the utmost confidence that these criminals will be apprehended," said Jeanne Kucy, the president and CEO of JetStream Federal Credit Union.
