2 injured in police-involved shooting

Miami Gardens officer recovering at Jackson Memorial

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Two people were injured after a police-involved shooting early Sunday morning in Miami Gardens.

Officers responded to a disturbance at 2170 Norhwest 183rd St. around 7:30 a.m. Sunday. Multiple people were involved in some sort of fight on the second story of an apartment building.

As police approached, a man identified as Randy Antonio Thomas ran from the scene with a gun.

After an exchange of gunfire, the suspect and an officer were hit. The officer was airlifted to Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital. He is in stable condition.

The suspect was also taken to Ryder Trauma and is in critical condition.
