2 killed in Plantation when truck hits pole

Woman dies at scene; man dies on way to hospital

PLANTATION, Fla. ā€“ A couple is dead after their truck hit a pole in Plantation, and now police are looking for a second car involved in the crash.

The crash happened at Peters Road and South Pine Island Road early Thursday morning.

Plantation Fire Rescue said the passenger, identified as Jennifer Catherine Jacon, 37, was ejected from the truck and died at the scene. The man, identified as Patrick Michael Kallman, 31, died on the way to a hospital.

Authorities said Kallman was struck by a second vehicle after he got out of his truck and tried to check on his girlfriend.

"Apparently, he got out of the vehicle on his own after the initial impact and was struck by a second vehicle that was coming northbound," Plantation Fire Battalion Chief Joel Gordon said.

Friends of the couple told Local 10 News crime specialist John Turchin that Jacon and Kallman had been dating for six years and were madly in love.

"These people a couple of hours ago were living and they were hanging out, calling on the phone, and now they're not," the couple's friend, Robert Fenwick, said. "Unfortunately, you know, the cowardness of somebody to do something wrong and not own it and not stick around, it's really tough. It makes the whole incident that much worse."

Police described the car involved as an older model silver or white four-door car. The car may have damage to the left side.

South Pine Island Road was closed from Southwest Sixth Street to Peters Road while the investigation was conducted.
