U.S. mayors to meet in Miami Beach for 2017 conference

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – The United States Conference of Mayors will be heading to Miami Beach in 2017 for its 85th annual summer meeting.

The USCM, which represents cities with a populations of 30,000 or larger, holds its summer meeting in a different city every year.

"Some of the most influential leaders in America have given Miami Beach a truly incredible honor," Miami Beach Mayor Philip Levine said Monday. "Mayors are on the cutting edge of some of the best and most important ideas today bearing on American jobs, security and community. What's more flattering is that the nation will get to see, first hand, why and how Miami Beach has become one of America's best cities."

More than 250 mayors from across the country will attend the four-day event to discuss issues like education, transportation, criminal justice, energy and jobs.

"We are pleased that the nation's mayors will be convening in Miami Beach for our 2017 summer meeting," said USCM CEO Tom Cochran. "It is a vibrant city with a rich architectural heritage. Moreover, its commitment to building a diversified economy by leveraging international trade opportunities holds many lessons from which we can learn."
