COOPER CITY, Fla. – Employees at a Cooper City Islamic school arrived at work Monday morning to find that someone had written a hateful message on one of the school's walls.
A photo taken by Local 10 News investigative reporter Bob Norman shows that someone spray-painted the words "F*** Muslims" on a wall just outside the school's entrance.
"This is a school from pre-K to 12 and this really terrorizes our students. This is a terror act," Wilfredo Ruiz, of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, said.
The incident at Nur UI Islam Academy at 10600 SW 59th St. was reported after several Jewish homeowners in the area received anti-Semitic messages in their mailboxes over the weekend.
One of the notes said "X-Mas is not for Jews," and another said, "WTF is on your roof? #x-masisbetter."
It's unclear who is behind the school vandalism or the letters.
The Islamic school has more than 400 students and faculty and also has an Islamic center on its property. Its principal told Local 10 News that school officials are taking precautions, but urged parents and student to remain calm.
"Parents are quite worried; this is their children," Rubina Tariq said. "So we sent them a letter explaining what we are doing and what our plan is, (and) what we implemented."
The Broward County Sheriff's Office, the FBI and the school's private security company are investigating the incident.
