Mom accused of driving drunk, fleeing with kids

Police dashcam captures mother's chase

TROY, Mich. – A Michigan woman is facing several charges after leading Troy police on a freeway chase with her kids in the car, and it was all caught on camera.

It had the potential of being a very dangerous situation.  Police said the driver was drunk with young children in her car.

Shamika Allen, 32, is charged with driving drunk, child endangerment, fleeing from police and driving with a suspended license after she allegedly led police on a chase on Interstate 75 in the early morning hours on May 2, police say.

Police patrolling for speeders clocked the Chevy Malibu doing 86 miles per hour on southbound I-75.

As they approached the car, it weaved between lanes before it finally pulled over to the shoulder.

Then, as officers walked toward the car, it sped off.

Calls went out to other officers and the speeding Malibu zoomed past one patrol car. The chase covered six miles before four Troy police cars boxed in the Malibu.

They got the vehicle to stop without making physical contact with it.

Officers found four children in the back seat. They were between the ages of 5 and 13.

There was a male passenger in the front seat. Allen allegedly had a blood alcohol level of more than twice the legal limit.
