West On Economy: DEFCON 1

81 Members Headed To Israel On Fact-Finding Mission

WASHINGTON, D.C. ā€“ Republican U.S. Rep. Allen West, who represents parts of Broward County and Palm Beach County, is calling on members of Congress to return to Washington to deal with the economic crisis.

West wrote on his Facebook page, "I sent a letter today to Leader Cantor requesting we come back to DC to resolve our deficit and spending issues. We should be in session!"

West also said on Fox News Monday morning, "We need to get back up to Washington, D.C. and deal with this situation."

"One of the things in being a soldier, you don't lay down your weapons when you're in the middle of a firefight. This is a big firefight. We should be in what we call DEFCON 1, so we need to be back in Washington, D.C.," he said.

Meantime, The Jerusalem Post reports that 81 members of Congress ? 55 Republicans and 26 Democrats ? are taking an eight-day fact-finding mission to Israel.

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor is reportedly leading one of the groups.

Democratic U.S. Rep. Frederica Wilson, who represents Miami, left Sunday on the trip. In a news release, Wilson said, "I'm thrilled to visit Israel for the first time to learn first-hand about one of our closest friends and allies."
